Improving lives of older adults through exergaming technology

Here’s what some of our participants had to say about the study:
Participant 1:
“I think its very unique and there is nothing like it ever and that’s attractive. And to know that it’s not just been for fun and interaction but the learning and memory skills…”
Participant 2
“Also my mind was working towards looking for the numbers or….It also helped with social engagement because we met and I enjoyed playing with another resident.”
Participant 3:
“I think its very interesting to have it for the seniors because they really enjoy it, they like to go and attend the program and it was a good challenge for them”
Digital games that focus on exercising are called exergames. MouvMat is one such exergame that our team of clinicians and engineers co-designed and developed. It has been specifically conceptualized and designed FOR and WITH older adults living in long term care homes. Our goal is to keep residents cognitively, physically and socially active to improve their quality of life.
Extensive research and development has been put into creating games that target cognitive functions such as memory, attention, thinking and problem-solving. This unique feature allows seniors to practice their cognitive abilities, promoting mental sharpness and agility.
Through a combination of interactive games with gentle exercises, MouvMat provides a fun and enjoyable way for older adults to improve their mobility.
MouvMat also recognizes the importance of social interaction and emotional well-being among older adults. The sessions are conducted in group settings, enabling seniors to connect with their peers and engage in meaningful activity. This fosters friendships, encourages socialization, and reduces feelings of isolation, which are common among older adults in long-term care homes.
